This blog entry is written from my new SuSe 9.3 Pro Linux installation, which I installed last weekend. Here's a screenshot of my desktop:

What can I say...I definitely have been missing out. The install went problem-free, even internet access via my big wintel machine worked out of the box. Eventually I want to run some light-weight server tasks on this box, FTP, Apache, PHP and maybe Tomcat. For now, I'll start by working through the two dummy books I ordered, Linux in a nutshell and Running Linux. Gotta love that Linux console :)

Speaking of the console, I took the screenshot above by running the following command in the console:


ksnapshot &

comment » Looks great! Now just make sure your Notes client runs OK under Wine.

Had some problems with it but now it runs /almost/ fine on my Mandriva 2005LE...

I do not intend to run the Notes client on this box. Mainly because it is way too slow for Wine. I'm gonna use this box to learn about Linux and play around with some server tasks, such as ftp, apache and PHP. «
